About AWP

Mission Statement

AWP is a nonprofit charity that aims at empowering Asian women in Nottingham. This is done by enhancing the skills and potential of Asian women through sensitive and appropriate socioeconomic support which is recognised by all sectors of the community as being underpinned by quality and equality. Therefore fostering the confidence of Asian women.

Objectives

  • To relieve poverty, sickness and disability among Asian women living or working in Nottingham.
  • To provide accessible training and education services for Asian women, which is accredited wherever possible and which in conjunction with the provision of other special support will form an effective and efficient preparation for employment.
  • To empower Asian women, enabling them to easily access information, education and training.
  • To promote communication and provide a forum for discussion of key topics and issues and to raise awareness of issues concerning the Asian community.
  • To promote community cohesion within the Asian community and the wider community. Reaching those who are socially excluded due to language, culture or unemployment barriers.
  • To promote good race relations in Nottingham by endeavouring to eliminate discrimination on the grounds of race or sex and encouraging equality of opportunity between persons of different racial background.
  • To promote activities which are charitable according to English law in order to benefit Asian women in Nottingham.
  • To promote healthy living of Asian women.
  • To deliver health services in a setting that is culturally and religiously appropriate.

AWP Strengths & USPs

AWP are attune with the key issues facing Asian women in Nottingham and thus are able to cater tailor made activities to meet their specific needs of the community in a culturally sensitive environment.

AWP has 25 years of experience of working within the community and therefore has developed excellent links and strong relationships within the Asian communities in Nottingham.

AWP has good links with external independent and governmental agencies.

AWP are innovative and are able to meet the needs of Asian Women across generations.

As a non-profit charity, volunteers are essential to the progress and capacity building of AWP. Volunteering is a two-way process. Not only do volunteers contribute to the work of AWP, but they can also get something in return.
